Needs analysis

The initial action for schools is a needs analysis across the 4 key areas of:

  • leadership
  • teaching and learning
  • parent and carer engagement
  • wider outcomes and opportunities

with a particular focus on ‘target’ pupils.

The evaluation found that where early AfA implementation went well, the project was seen as something that could be assimilated into existing structures and practices rather than as a "bolt on".   This involved thinking about the project as an opportunity to refocus on some of the most vulnerable learners in the school and work creatively to promote better outcomes for them by enhancing existing provision.
