Family

All parents were in low paid occupations and most were illiterate.

Specific reasons given by the parents for withdrawing the children from schooling were:

                lack of interest in studies (14.46%;11.62% of students gave this reason), unfriendly school (11.56) Difficulty in learning (9.62%; 12.5% of students gave this reason), lack of interest in school (10.56% of students gave this reason), corporal punishment (6.75%; 10.56% of students gave this reason), class repetition (7.64%; 9.61% of students gave this reason), lack of co-curricular activities(10.58%; 8.65% of students gave this reason), harsh attitude of teachers (7.69; 7.7% of students gave this reason),friendship with out of school children (5.67%), financial burden (6.65%) Other causes were child labour, family crises/broken homes, mental retardation, inappropriate curricular, preference for religious education, poor health, attitude of their class fellows.
